new mission

Now that I feel a lot more comfortable with living in Paris, I’ve decided I’m going to try really really hard to do something new everyday. Whether it’s trying a new food, wandering somewhere different or exploring a new museum, I want to make the most of my time left here (which is still over 6 weeks, but still)

So I’m going to try to continually edit this post (originally posted 1/25/12) with my new adventures!

Mon 1/23: new restaurant “nour” where I tried chswarma poulet

Tues 1/24: Invalides, saw a lot of armor from the 14-16th centuries, Napoleon’s tomb and an awesome WWI and WWII exhibit (have to go back because it closed early!)

Wed 1/25: new crepe place in St. Micheal area, ham, egg and cheese (no buckwheat crepe) and nutella crepe with a drink for 5 euro! I definitely want to go back here and chill and do work for a while-it was so nice and cozy!

Thur 1/26: sangria! My French conversation assistant took us to a sangria bar in the St. Germain area.. sangria is DELICIOUS
Also today, I went to movie!! Granted, it was an American movie with French subtitles, but still. It was neat!

Fri 1/27: Fountainbleu! The precursor to le grande palace de Versailles, this chateau was home to Henry II, Napoleon, and Marie Antoinette, among others. Keep an eye out for pictures!
Blue Elephant!! Amazing Thai restaurant near Bastille that my friend’s parents took me too, so much delicious chicken, pork, beef and salmon (gasp!).. not to mention the pinot noir and mojitos.

Sat 1/28: the Louvre!! First visit to one of the most reputable art museums in the world.. then we strolled around the Tuilleries for a while, bought a few postcards and had paninis from a curbside vendor. Headed out to Corcoran’s Irish Pub in the St. Michael area for drinks and fun

Sun 1/29: Bastille and Felicie’s-returned to the fresh open-air market at Bastille for my weekly fruit stores and then headed to a little cafe in the 14th with 2 friends to do some reading to the week.

Mon 1/30.. everyone needs a day off right?

Tues 1/31: Las du Falaffel (?) in the Marais, had the best schwarma poulet of my life, with grilled eggplant!
The Catacombs-as the story goes, the French government needed to relocate thousands of corpses around the early 18th century and they said skeletons ended up nicely arranged in the underground mines that were made during mining for stones for buildings. Very very eerie place to visit, but also amazing breathtaking in it’s own way

Wed 2/1: Chez Gladines! Delicious, large portion restaurant in the 13th (not far from me). I had potatoes with cheese and ham with a glass of delicious sangria. Also met Sammy and Seth (friends of Meenakshi!)

Thurs 2/2: Le Coude Feu, my french class took us out for a really fantastic dinner at a restaurant near Hotel de Ville (like city hall). I had a cheese dish (almost like cheese soup) with goat cheese, a thin steak with cheese sauce and mashed potatoes and creme brulee, not to mention the red and white wine that was freely flowing. Such a delicious meal!

Fri 2/3: l’Opera and Pizza Pino, headed to the ritzy 9th arrondismont with Julia to check out Galeries Lafayette (huge department store that puts US ones to shame) and had lunch/dinner at a new pizza place. Who knew ham and goat cheese pizza would be so delicious!

Sat 2/4: St-Germain-des-Pres, finally got to walk around the 6th with Katie and Caroline. Got to go inside St-Germain and St Sulpice churches, which were just amazingly awesome. And then we had a late lunch at La Palette!

Sun 2/5: didn’t make it to the Bastille market today.. it was too cold! But I did enjoy crepes in St Michael and spent some quality time in Felicie’s to do some reading
