So I’ve been in France for about 4 days now and I have to say, I’m doing a lot more than I realized. Apart from going to and from my classes (the UC center is about 20-30 min ride on the train from my dorm, Cite Internationale, and doing hundred of pages of reading (The Prince, Oration on the Dignity of Man, Gargantua, to name a few), here are a few of the things I’ve accomplished:
- taken the metro, RER and tram (by myself even!)
- tried smoked salmon (essentially raw)
- had French creme brulee (divine!)
- purchased fresh deli sandwiches from a boulangerie
- when grocery shopping at Monoprix and Carrafour
- eaten an authentic French nutella crepe
- bought my first bottle of wine (a rosee for 5 euro)
- accidentally bought a 27 euro bath towel
- tried quiche de fromage (cheese quiche) and pain au chocolat (DELICIOUS)
- ordered said quiche and pain ALL IN FRENCH
- walked through an open air market
Not too bad right? I have to say that it’d been a really rough adjustment for me to be here… but I think I might finally be turning around. Now I just gotta kick this cold, learn a bit more French and I’ll be golden.
